Until next year! MWC Day 4

The week has flown by, once again!

Here’s what we did with our last day at MWC 2015.

Snapped some photos on the way to the show as it’s a beautiful sunny day and 20 degrees Celsius (compared to the near -20 degrees Celsius at our Montreal HQ).

Alfonso Dominguez, Sales Engineer at iBwave participated in a video panel held by TeleSemana.com (a leading online publication covering the Latin American telecommunications industry). The panel also included Art King from SpiderCloud and Patrick Westfalk from Comba Telecom Brazil. They discussed network coverage in stadiums, specifically from a Latin American perspective. We’ll be posting the video of the panel when we get our hands on it.

Throughout the week, we captured some video footage of just a slice of the innovation, excitement, art and technology at MWC 2015 in order to share the buzz that happens only once a year.

As the day comes to a close, we say goodbye and see you next year to the Fira Gran Via, to our MWC friends and to the beautiful city of Barcelona.

Until next year!

Innovations and Successes in Streamlining Indoor Small Cells Planning – MWC Day 3

Today at Mobile World Congress, an important highlight for us is the presentation of Benoit Fleury, our VP Products & Innovation at the Small Cell Forum booth on the Latest Innovations and Successes in Streamlining Indoor Small Cells Planning.

Here are the main points covered:

  • Key indoor market stats, drivers and challenges;
  • Complexities, challenges and unique dynamics particular to small cell planning and deployment;
  • Higher volume leading to a need for faster deployment cycles and a simpler process.

Did you know that out of an estimated 30 billion square meters of office space on earth, only 2% has adequate indoor wireless coverage?

Benoit then describes the small cells planning workflow and how the iBwave product suite facilitates it. He goes into further detail on iBwave Mobile Planner, our in-building app for wireless mobility on the go, which allows field teams to plan a small cell network in three steps:

  1. Create floor plan and environment zones;
  2. Collect RF data, select small cells and run prediction;
  3. Add network equipment (from our database of over 16,000 parts) and include annotations.

Next, Benoit brings in a real-life small cell deployment case study demonstrating the amount of time that can be saved.

A typical small cell site survey scenario is described below with each step and the amount of hours each one takes using traditional methods:

In contrast, the same scenario using iBwave Mobile Planner. Steps are simplified and some are no longer needed:

48% time savings – that’s pretty significant.

Benoit then invites Art King, Director of Enterprise Services and Technologies at SpiderCloud to present. Mr. King presents his own case study of a 1.5 million square foot multi-level building that they recently worked on. He shows the significant savings and great results achieved through the use of iBwave Mobile Planner.

SpiderCloud released some big news at MWC as well – a new collaboration with Cisco to resell SpiderCloud’s small cell portfolio and with Vodafone as the first client to this new collaboration. Read their press release here.

It’s hard to believe that there is only one day left of Mobile World Congress. Come back tomorrow to get our final conclusions from the event as well some video footage from the show.

So Much Happening Day 2 at MWC

If we thought day 1 was busy, day 2 has been jam packed with a launch, giving a presentation, more meetings & demos and to top it all off, our In-building Mix & Mingle which brought together hundreds of people from the in-building industry.

The day started with the press conference and launch for the Small Cell Forum’s Release Five – Rural & Remote – which features tons of content for small cell deployments in rural & remote areas such as rural communities, remote industrial areas, public safety & disaster recovery zones, special events, military applications and transportation.

The press conference covered some of the material available for download and also featured some updated market stats, courtesy of Joe Madden at Mobile Experts. For more info on this release, view our blog post.

The buzz of demos and meetings continued all day at the iBwave booth! Some passersby also stopped by to get a closer look at Scott’s socks.

The afternoon kicked off with a presentation at the Small Cell Forum booth on Practical Medium-Large Enterprise Deployment & Case Studies. Art King, Director of Enterprise Services & Technologies at SpiderCloud and Benoit Fleury, VP Products & Innovation at iBwave led the presentation, which covered two use cases – both located on multiple floors – that resulted in excellent 3G coverage throughout the building and a 50% decrease in load on macro-cells.

To hear the pre-discussions on this, you can listen to our recent webinar “Connected People, Devices, Networks… And Tapas?” The speakers start with their expectations on MWC 2015 but get into some of the meat of small cells and HetNet around the 19 minute mark.

Meanwhile, a quick tour of the halls showed that one of the big trends this year is the Internet of Things, ie: watch phones, Wi-Fi cameras, sport technology and all sorts of other connected gadgets. Alcatel-Lucent put a cheeky spin on this, by posting on their booth: “It’s not the Internet of things. It’s the Internet of YOUR things.” I’ll let that sink in for a minute.

A quick breath of warm, fresh air in the very cool networking garden and then quickly back to the booth.

Back at the booth, it’s time to set up for our In-building Mix & Mingle. Our caterers have once again done a fantastic job of creating a fun atmosphere with delicious hors d’oeuvres and mouth watering Spanish wine.

The cocktail received a great turnout! Special thanks to our sponsors: AccuverAscomCisco, FalconSmart, ip.accessMCCISolutelia and SpiderCloud. Come back tomorrow for more cocktail photos and highlights.

Also tomorrow, if you’re at the show, make sure to stop by the Small Cell Forum booth to catch an insightful presentation by our own Benoit Fleury.
